Infusion Day

Hi Everyone,

Grace here again.  It's Infusion Day...Kathy and Ethan are on their way to the (temporary) Infusion Center for chemo #9.  Ethan has been on a typical first-line chemotherapy regimen for colon cancer called FOLFIRI + Avastin.  In layperson's terms, FOLFIRI is a combination of 3 different drugs to stop the cancer from reproducing.  Avastin is not chemotherapy, in that it's a "tumor-starving therapy" which is designed to block some sort of protein that's produced by cancer cells.  

Though I hadn't heard about whether the doctor agreed to it, Ethan would like to have only Avastin for this round. The worst side effects come from the drug Irinotecan (the "IRI" in FOLFIRI), and the 5-FU ("F") stinks too.

UPDATE: Ethan did just receive Avastin and Zometa (which is basically a bone strengthener, used in patients with bone metastases, as Ethan has).  Ethan had a mellow evening at home...
